The idea of Enterprise Resource Planning is to make your life easier in every way. It’s there as a central hub of information that is live and easily dissected and manipulated. With the huge amount of data that is processed by these systems, being able to find information you want as quick as possible can be a challenge in itself. The term KPI is often thrown around, but what does it actually mean? KPI stands for Key Performance Indicator. A Key Performance Indicator is a business metric used to evaluate factors that are crucial to the success of an organisation. Different organisations will have different indicators that are fundamental to their success.

Different people in an organisation will want to see different KPI information. Having a system whereby this information is unique to each user is compulsory. Sales managers may want to see information such as how long quotations are taking to be made, or even how many quotes are being won and lost. Production managers may want to see the efficiency of employees and machines. Quality managers may want to see information referring to scrap reasons or other common quality control issues.

The way in which this information is displayed can also vary. Generally they are displayed in some sort of graphical format. These can be things such as bar charts, pie graphs or even a dial indicator. Having the ability to interact with this information by drilling down into certain segments and also filtering by a date range should be a standard ERP feature. Creating these dashboards can be tricky to someone with little software experience so ensure that your software provider offer this service at no extra cost.

The days of spending copious amounts of time searching through report after report in order to find a piece of information are no more. ERP is a concept that enables you to be proactive rather than reactive and should make your life quicker and easier. To put it short, the information relevant to you should be live and at your fingertips whenever you need it.
